Obituary of Raj Rani Sharma

February 8, 1929 – Bhawal Nagar, Pakistan

January 25, 2025 – Calgary, Alberta

Raj Rani “Maaji” Sharma, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, January 25 at the age of 95 years. 

Born in Bhawal Nagar, Pakistan on February 8, 1929, Maaji immigrated to Canada on June 17, 1992. She spent her life focusing on building her family and being a dedicated housewife. Maaji was known for her joyful spirit, her love for cooking, and making sure everyone who entered her home left with a full stomach. Her love for Price is Right brought her joy, and she found happiness in her favourite foods, including Tim Hortons French vanilla coffee, veggie pizza from Pizza 73, and Indian sweets like rasmalai. 

Maaji is survived by her husband of 70 years, Kesho Ram Sharma; her two sons Rajesh and Pawan; her three daughters Indu, Sunita, and Neelam; as well as nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her furry companion Pluto, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Maaji will be remembered as a kind-hearted, caring, and selfless person who spent her life devoted to her family. She preached values and good intentions to all she came around. She was the strength of our family, and until the very end, she showed her courage and strong mental fortitude. Above all, she loved her family and even in her last moments, she left with a smile on her face. 

She will be immensely missed by our entire family. She may be gone but her memories will continue to live on in our hearts and minds, and we will forever cherish the time we were blessed to have with her. Her teachings will be passed on to generations to come in our family, and we take solace in knowing that she is now at peace.

Funeral Services will be held at McInnis & Holloway (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB), on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m.
