Obituary of Margaret Agnes Mantle
Margaret "Margie" Mantle (nee Panny), beloved wife of the late Donald Mantle, passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the age of 92 years. She was born in Toronto, ON, on September 17, 1932, and spent her final days in Calgary, AB.
Margie graduated from the University of Toronto with a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology/MHSc and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma organization. She dedicated much of her time to volunteering with ARBI, using her skills to help those in need. She also made many trips to Romania, helping in our family mission. She was very involved in parish life at the church, always offering to lend a hand. Margie spent nine years as an elementary school teacher and 22 years as a speech therapist at an Assessment Centre, making a positive impact in the lives of countless children and adults.
In her free time, Margie loved being outdoors, especially hiking in the mountains, camping, and swimming. She also enjoyed reading, needlework, and photography. One of her greatest achievements was obtaining her master's degree at the age of 43.
Margie is survived by her son, Paul Mantle (Tracy) of Whitehorse, YT; and her daughter, Kathy Spencer (Jon) of Calgary, AB. She was a loving grandmother to Codruta Langston and Andrea Langston.
Margie is also survived by her niece, Margaret Goodwin and her children, Heather Webster (Dave) and Chris Eggleton (Erin).
Margie was predeceased by her cherished husband, Donald Mantle, and her parents, Anna and Christopher Panny, as well as her sister, Anne Goodwin.
Margie will be dearly missed by her family and friends, as well as the parish of St. Peter the Aleut Christian Orthodox Church and her Delta Kappa Gamma sisters. She will be remembered for her loving and outgoing nature, always seeking the best in others and encouraging them.
Margie will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
The prayer of St. Francis of Assisi was one of which Margie tried to live by.
"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is Hatred, let me sow Love. Where there is Injury, Pardon. Where there is Doubt, Faith. Where there is Despair, Hope. Where there is Darkness, Light, and Where there is Sadness, Joy. O Divine Master, Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; To be understood, as to understand; To be loved, as to love; For it is in giving that we receive, It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, And it is in dying that we are born to Eternal Life."
