Barbara Redmond

Obituary of Barbara Jean Redmond

The family of Barbara “Barb” Redmond, beloved wife of William “Bill” Redmond, of Calgary, AB, are heartbroken to announce her sudden passing, surrounded by her loved ones at the South Health Campus on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

Barb was born and raised in Calgary, in the Haysboro and Palliser neighbourhoods. She attended Haysboro Elementary, John Ware Junior High, Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School, and the University of Calgary.

She worked at the Alberta Wheat Pool and Sam Livingston School, but her favourite roles were wife and mother. Barb loved her family immensely and was a loyal friend to many. She was an accomplished cook, and a naturally gifted artista talent she passed on to her son. Her beautifully decorated home and garden reflected her love for and connection with nature.

Barb was able to find enjoyment in all aspects of life and shared that fun with her loved ones and friends. Her charm and wit brought out her radiant smile and hearty laugh. She was a kind and caring person whose aura warmed everyone around her. Barb liked chatting with her neighbours on the cul-de-sac in Millrise; she was always ready with a story (or two) to share.

She loved to travel and had many adventures to places both near and far. From drives in the country, to trips around the world. She enjoyed yearly trips to Vancouver Island in BC, spending time with dear childhood friends.  A very memorable trip was with her family to Australia and New Zealand. As a natural storyteller, she had lots of amusing tales, including the two-week family bus tour in Europe, when their luggage never arrived.

Barb loved animals (especially her pet cat Koolie), children, a good joke, and any shows featuring Keifer Sutherland. Barb will be dearly missed, and she will not be forgotten.

Barb is survived by her beloved husband William (Bill), and her cherished son Trent. She was a wonderful sister to Blair (Shannon Fraser), and an amazing aunt to Adria (Brandon Ceulemans), Wyatt (Liddy Pay), and Scott (Erika Pejo). Barb was a delightful great-aunt to Owen and Natalie.

She was predeceased by her parents, Hugh and Grayce Fraser, and her in-laws Edward (Ted) and Laurine Redmond.

Her family would like to thank the South Health Campus paramedics, and the doctors and nurses in the ER and ICU; and especially Marissa, Brielle, and Jonah, for their compassionate care and support.

A private Celebration of Barb’s Life will be held at a later date, details to be announced by the family.

If friends or family so desire, memorial tributes in Barb’s memory may be made directly to any charity of their choice.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Barbara’s family at MHFH.com.

In living memory of Barbara Jean Redmond, a tree will be planted in the Ann and Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes.
